300

In 300, Gerard Butler stars as King Leonidas of Sparta, the man assigned the daunting task of protecting his city from hundreds of thousands of advancing Persian soldiers. Actually, assigned might not be the right word since Leonidas more or less delegates himself and his men to protect Sparta. He does so against the advice of the Spartan council and their half-naked oracles who tell him that going to war with the Persians would ultimately lead to death. Nevertheless, Leonidas assembles an army of 300 highly trained Spartan soldiers and is joined by a small army of not-so-highly trained but equally eager commoners and they set out to defeat the Persian army - an army that outnumbers them at least 10 to 1. Leonidas' plan is to station his men at a narrow mountain corridor known as the "Gates of Hell" and it is there where they will fend off the Persians and kill them one by one if need be. Unfortunately for the King and his brave men, a betrayal takes place and the Persians are able to ambush the Spartans via a hidden path on the mountain. But these Spartan soldiers are taught at a young age to fight to the death and till every last drop of blood is spilled. It is something they are more than happy to do. As Leonidas not-so-subtly instructs his men - "Eat a hearty breakfast men, for tonight we dine in Hell!". Let the battle begin.

Happy Feet

The Story

Elijah Wood provides the voice of Mumble, an adorable little guy who was born without the ability to sing. Whenever Mumble opens his mouth to give it a try, anyone within earshot is immediately in pain. While every other penguin in his community uses his or her beautiful singing voice to attract a member of the opposite sex, Mumble finds tap-dancing away to a tune in his head is much more his style.

This dancing thing doesn't go over well with members of his own species, and even leads to poor Mumble's exile from his friends and family. But don't despair, a short but sassy penguin named Ramon (Robin Williams) and his group of Adelie penguin buddies befriends the outcast. Accepted by Ramon and his goofy gang, Mumble soon learns it's okay to be different. He also learns important lessons about conservation and how people are ruining the habitats of creatures across the planet.

Ghost Rider

By day, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) is a cheerily eccentric daredevil motorcycle performer. He drinks coffee straight from the pot, gulps jelly beans from cocktail glasses, adores the music of The Carpenters and loves pay-TV documentaries about monkeys. He's an easy guy to like.

By night, however, Johnny transforms into a violent supernatural agent of vengeance. His body turns into a flaming skeleton, his head turns into a flaming skull, his bike turns into a flaming chopper and he rides around leaving a flaming trail behind him as he dispenses flaming justice upon evildoers by turning their eyes into flaming vortexes of repentance in which they see the suffering of their victims.

He also acts as bounty hunter for Satan (an impressively coiffed Peter Fonda) who, long ago, commissioned Johnny to retrieve souls that have escaped from the very depths of Hell, which, presumably, are also flaming. He is also very easy to like.

Fun with Dick and Jane

"Fun with Dick and Jane" is a remake of the 1977 film (which starred George Segal & Jane Fonda), and while it isn’t a bad film, falls somewhat closer to the level of dud. Carrey stars as Dick Harper, a corporate ladder climber who has made it to the VP position at the corporate giant, Globodyne. His position has allowed him and his wife, Jane (Tea Leoni), to live a comfortable life. But when his boss steals millions from the company, Dick is left without a job. So, in order to maintain their lifestyle they turn to a life of crime, starting off small and eventually working up to bank robbing. Hilarity ensues.

Gone in 60 Seconds

Gone in 60 Seconds is a hit-and-miss movie, with a few hits featuring some amazing cars and some great action sequences, and lots of misses having to do with "character development".

The movie features Nicholas Cage as Randall "Memphis" Raines, a car thief who was the best until he retired. Memphis is forced back into business when he finds out that his brother Kip (Giovanni Ribisi) has gotten himself into trouble with a local hoodlum, Raymond Calitri (Christopher Eccleston). The problem is that Kip promised that he would deliver fifty cars to Raymond, but failed in his attempt to do so. Memphis must finish what Kip started, or lose his brother to a metal crusher. Complicating the matters is a police detective (Delroy Lindo) who is wise to the car robberies and wants to nail Memphis.
